The Metro Story
Metro Aviation was incorporated in 1982 as a helicopter charter, flight training, and maintenance operation. Starting with Schumpert in 1983 and continuing with every customer thereafter, Metro has remained committed to a simple, involved management style.
Today, Metro Aviation's reputation for excellence in helicopter transportation services is internationally recognized. As such, we have enjoyed substantial growth. It is important to note, however, that Metro Aviation's growth has been carefully controlled to assure our financial stability and to allow us the opportunity to select only the most qualified personnel. Regardless of our size, Metro has remained committed to the basic principals we outlined years ago and continue to practice.
Pioneers as traditional as sweet tea
We are pioneers of our industry, and as such, are often the first to do something. We were the first air medical provider to equip our entire fleet with Night Vision Goggles. We partnered with FlightSafety to create the world's first EC135 Level D Full Motion Simulator and the United States' first EC145 Level D Full Motion Simulator. We were the first Part 145 certificate holder to reach Level IV of the FAA's Safety Management System Pilot Program, and one of the first to reach Level IV for Part 135 Operators. We created the Helicopter Flight Training Center as an industry-wide resource in an effort to make the helicopter community safer, and equipped it with 4 simulators and a maintenance classroom. We also added the CommLab, a simulator for communication specialists.
Building on Our Past
Our foundation of quality, safety and customer service has remained with us for 35 years and is still the cornerstone of our company. As the largest privately-held, traditional air medical operator in the U.S. and the largest air medical completion center in the world, we have learned several lessons, both in life and business. We hope you'll enjoy our stories and we look forward to sitting down with you.
